Ivan Bargna - Africa: art and architecture
The illustrated book "Africa - art and architecture" wants to get rid of the cliché of African art which had been trivialised under the guise of a fictional "Africanness" with its colonial perspective.
It has the concern to respond to the diverse expressions of the old, traditional and contemporary artistic creations. The reader is then confronted with the art of Africa in their original context and in the context of a comprehensive history of civilization.
A chapter is devoted to the era of African kingdoms, which were later facing colonialism. Finally, the reader gets an insight into the art phenomena of modern Africa, the architecture and the topic of masks.
